Applying to college is a process that will take time, therefore planning every step is crucial. The first step which should be obvious is brainstorming a list of colleges that you want to apply to. Think of this process like inviting someone to prom: one or two are your top choices, a small list are those that will say yes, and others are your safeties. The second step is to prepare yourself to present yourself in the best way possible. Just like you polish yourself when meeting with a boy or girl, make sure to show the college you are applying those unique and outstanding qualities that makes you a great candidate. A third step that I would suggest is taking to a representative. Send an email letting them know that you are applying and make sure to have every doubt answered, even the slightest thought. Fourth is to have clear every deadline given that you have to plan according to them. The fifth step is to have all the documentation for the application. In order to know what you have yo present to your college be sure to read all the information they offer. Also make sure if you have to send any placement test scores. The six step is to narrow your choices to those that you want the most. Be as picky as possible and think about what you want. Hear what others have to say but most importantly listen to yourself. Once you have done that, read the essay question of the college and deconstruct the question. Look for key words and make sure that you understand what the question is asking. It is important that you are concise with your writing and present unique thoughts. Remember that the admission representative will meet you through the documents you send, especially your response to your essay. If you are applying to an art school, make sure to send the best pieces for your portfolio. Choose those pieces that represent your artistic soul because it is unique! Also remember that there are no limits to creativity, so explore explore explore. In the case of Parsons, apart from the 11-15 portfolio pieces, one has to submit three pieces for the Parsons Challenge. What I found the most important in this experience was the fact that I was given the opportunity to demonstrate Parsons how my creative mind functions. Therefore after choosing your source of inspiration, I would recommend go trust in yourself and create. The seventh step is to be organized. Make a folder on your computer where you keep all the documents for the application. The eighth step is to gather your documents and send them! Remember to be positive and happy that you are applying to college as the experience will be amazing! When I accepted to Parsons I felt an enormous joy and very successful, and I hope you do too!
