Most Universities & Colleges will require Freshmen students to sleep in the dorms throughout their first year. For students, like myself, who has never slept in school, it seems like a very fun experience and a constant reminder that I have traveled away from my home to study. Being in a different city, country and with new people, will challenge students to design their lives prioritizing their studies. Given that university/college students are expected to be mature beings, the daily routines given by parents "Have you done your homework? Don't you have a test on monday? Remember to sleep early." will never be heard again. For that reason, it now becomes the responsibility of every Freshmen student to take charge of their obligations.
The environment of the University & College dorm buildings becomes the home to students as this surrounding will hold their first memories of how they choose to built their lives. Based on the type of room one is given (single, double, triple, etc) students will have to plan how to organize their space. This space reflection the habits of the person who they will be in college as well as in their future homes. A student who keeps their dorm tight will most likely be the type of student who is organized, turns in their things on time, is always prepared to class and earns good grades. A student who forgets to pick up the clothes from the floor and wash them, who doesn't care to throw the trash, among other things that makes their dorm space messy, will probably be the type of student who earned their way to college because they are clever but lacks organization skills. A student who always has food on their dorm will be challenged to control their eating habits because if not the end result will be the "freshmen 15". A student who wants to be the 'cool party kids' and uses their dorm as a party space will get into problems with the dorm advisors and can be in dorm probation. Every dorm building will have advisors who will make sure that students are following the rules. Since you will not see them on a daily basis, you might be tempted to break some rules, but be aware that they know who you are and that they will find out.
So remember your dorm space is for you to maintain and care for, because no one will clean up for you, make your bed or wash your clothes, those duties you had for free when living with your parents, will now become your chores.
